Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Abnormal bleeding & its symptoms in hemorrhagic disease (purpura, aplastic anemia, cancer, leukemia); bloody sputum & hemoptysis in pulmonary TB; renal & genital bleeding; bleeding in prostatomegaly; abnormal bleeding during operation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. IM/IV 250-500 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses. During or after operation 500-2,500 mg by IV drip infusion.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity. Patients receiving thrombin.
Special Precautions
Pulmonary embolism. Patient w/ & at risk of thrombosis (eg, cerebral thrombosis, MI or thrombophlebitis); consumption coagulopathy. Post-op, recumbent ridden patient & patient undergoing astriction. Concomitant use w/ heparin. Renal failure. IM administration in premature & suckling infants, newborns & childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting. Itching, rash; anorexia, diarrhea; drowsiness, headache. Shock, convulsion.
Drug Interactions
Thrombosis tendency w/ thrombin or hemocoagulase. May cause thromboembolism w/ batroxobin. Activated coagulation w/ coagulation factor agents (eptacog-α).
